Beginning Stargazer’s Toolkit
Besides the telescope and accessories, the following items are must-haves in any stargazer’s toolkit:-
1. A Planisphere which shows locations of constellations and deep-sky objects during different times of the year – make sure you have one that’s meant for your latitude;
2. A Compass to get your bearings right;
3. A Moon Map to help you identify the interesting craters and other lunar features;
4. An Astronomy Flashlight which emits red light that will not affect your night vision; and
5. The book, “Discover the Stars”, is a wonderful read. It is well illustrated and a handy guide for any beginner.
You may add other “essentials” such as warm clothings and hot beverages in cooler months, a foldable chair and a positive mind that the weather and the sky will be on your side.
